A drug named generically tofacitinib citrate which is in a class of drugs called

janus kinase inhibitors and which prevent the production of  cytokines  which

mediate inflammation is being used for a severe type of eczema called

atopic dermatitis.

Atopic Dermatitis is a type of skin inflammation characterized by itching,red and

cracked skin with a preponderance for the front of the knees and back of the

elbows.It has a definite genetic predisposition and many people with it are 

more prone to asthma and hay fever.

Janus kinase inhibitors (JAK) are also being proposed for psoriasis,vitiligo

(loss of skin pigment),and a type of hair loss called alopecia areata. 

In addition,janus kinase inhibitor drugs are used for rheumatoid arthritis.

Although generally well tolerated,janus kinase inhibitors can lead to 

opportunistic infections,malignancies,and elevated lipids(cholesterol,triglycerides).
